Friday evening, we had a major outage, which lasted for more than 24 hours. We worked together with our hosting provider, Amazon, to remedy the problem, which finally turned out to be a sudden influx of bogus UDP packets coming from a wide variety of IP addresses.
The problem was remedied by Amazon blocking UDP traffic a couple of levels up from us, but as of now, we're seeing the same symptoms from before. We can't access our network storage (EBS), due to this flood of traffic, and hence we cannot serve a functioning site to our users. We're actively working with the Amazon engineering team to track the origin once again, and we will be back once it's taken care of.
We're extremely apologetic, and once again want you to know your data is safe. The logical conclusion is that we're under DDOS, but we've been advised not to confirm nor deny that.
